Why Me?

Nope, this isn't a blog post bemoaning my personal troubles (my daughter actually slept straight through the night for 12 hours, so I'm feeling extra sparkly today). This is a blog post explaining why, in an age where everyone literally carries a camera in their pocket, you would want to hire me for your intimate photo session. After all, you could do it yourself for free, right?

Sure. Theoretically, you could definitely take pictures of yourself, and given the capabilities of smart phones, the quality probably would probably be okay! And if that's what you want to do, I say go for it! It's awesome that everyone has the ability to take pictures, and it can be a lot of fun to do an impromptu photo shoot in the privacy of your own home. So again, why hire me?

Why you shouldn't take your own boudoir photos
One of my first attempts at a boudoir selfie, many years ago. Eeek, I know.

An intimate photography session is a lot like riding a roller coaster: it's all about the experience. Sure, you get photos at the end of it, but without that experience, without the thrilling, nerve-wracking, "holy shit, I can't believe I'm doing this!" feeling and the adrenaline rush you get from leaving your comfort zone and realizing what a truly badass human being you are, the photos afterwards aren't worth much. As beautiful as they might be, it takes the experience to turn them from pictures into images; memories of a day you went out and showed off your fearless and fierce side.

It's easier to be behind the camera than try to do both.

When you book a session with me, it starts well before the day of your photos. First, you fill out a questionnaire to help me design the best possible session for you and your needs, while getting a feel for who you are as a person and what your comfort level looks like. It even helps me design a rocking playlist tailored to your tastes for the big day! You also receive a boudoir styling guide with tips and ideas for what to wear, and what to avoid, and a welcome packet detailing what happens during a session, posing tips, and FAQs.

Once your questionnaire is filled out, I contact you with personalized ideas for your session, and suggestions on what to bring and wear. Our communication should be open, back-and-forth, and questions, concerns, or input from you is always welcome and encouraged! You should be as prepared and comfortable as I can possibly make you for your session.

The day of your session you'll relax beforehand with a mimosa or sparkling water while getting your hair and makeup done. Everything about this experience is meant to pamper you and bring out your inner goddess, from start to finish. To use another analogy, it's sort of like going out to a nice steak dinner. Sure, you could grill at home, but sometimes it's nice to get dressed up and let someone else serve you and deal with the dishes.

After your session, we'll schedule a time to meet in person so you can view your images. Part of the service I offer is the ability to create your own packages based on which images you choose. I specialize in prints and albums from one of the best professional imaging labs in the country, with quality far beyond what you would get printing them yourself at CVS, Walmart, or Shutterfly. Because my equipment is calibrated to the lab's printers, I guarantee the quality when printed through me. Digitals are available as well, along with specialty products like funky retroviewers, alluring folio boxes, or stunning metal wall art.

Anyone can take a photograph, but my job is to create images that capture who you really are. To do that, I design a customized experience from top to bottom, completely centered around your best self. My job isn't over until you're elated, high on euphoria from discovering and celebrating your unique, awesome self. Contact me today to get started on your boudoir experience!
